Norethisterone
Primolut-N is a drug used for menstrual problems in women. Its active ingredient, norethisterone, is a synthetic hormone that mimics progesterone, a very important female hormone for maintaining the menstrual cycle and pregnancy. It also has some androgenic effects and estrogenic activity. Each tablet of Primolut-N, which is available in tablet form in pharmacies, contains 5 mg of active ingredient. It is especially used for the treatment of menstrual irregularity, severe menstrual pain and menstrual bleeding.
Primolut-N dosage
The amount you should take is determined by your doctor according to your condition. However, unless your doctor indicates otherwise, the dose administered is as follows:
Premenstrual syndrome: The recommended dose for symptoms such as premenstrual headache, breast pain, edema, tachycardia and nervous mood is 1-3 tablets per day from day 19 to day 26 of the cycle. The treatment is repeated for several cycles, after which the patient may not experience symptoms for several months.
Delayed menstruation: The recommended dose is 1 tablet three times a day, starting 3 days before the expected onset of menstruation and for no more than 10 to 14 days. The patient has menstruation 2-3 days after stopping the drug.
Endometriosis: Treatment is started with 1 tablet twice a day between the first and the 5th day of the cycle. If spotting occurs, the dose may be increased to 2 tablets twice a day. If the bleeding stops, it is reduced to the starting dose. Treatment should continue for at least 4-6 months.
Excessive menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia): 1 tablet 2-3 times a day from day 19 to day 26 of the cycle (day 1 counts as the first day of menstruation).
