1. What Enfluvir is and what it is used for
Enfluvir is used to treat adults, adolescents, children, and newborns older than 2 weeks during an influenza epidemic. In newborns older than 2 weeks, treatment should be started within the first 2 days of flu symptoms.
Enfluvir is also used to prevent flu during an influenza epidemic in adults, adolescents, children, and infants aged 1 year or older.
The active ingredient of ENFLUVIR is oseltamivir. Enfluvir belongs to a group of medicines called "neuraminidase inhibitors". These drugs prevent the flu virus from spreading inside the body. These drugs relieve or prevent symptoms of influenza virus infection.
Enfluvir should not be used in babies born prematurely (premature) and under 2 weeks of age. It is found in hard gelatin capsules with a colorless cap and a red cap.
ENFLUVIR 75 mg capsules are offered to the market in packages containing 10 capsules.
Enfluvir has been prescribed to you to treat the flu (influenza). It can be used when you show flu symptoms and the flu virus is common in the community. At other times it may be used as listed below:
• ENFLUVIR is prescribed to prevent flu. ENFLUVIR can be used if you have been in contact with someone who has the flu. This use is usually decided on a case-by-case basis.
• ENFLUVIR is prescribed as preventive therapy in exceptional circumstances. For example, ENFLUVIR can be used when the seasonal flu vaccine does not provide adequate protection and there is a flu epidemic (global flu epidemic).
Enfluvir is used to treat flu in infants younger than 1 year of age during an influenza epidemic, provided that it is used only temporarily, during an epidemic, on the advice of a doctor or under the supervision of a doctor. Doctors decide whether to use Enfluvir in infants of this age based on the severity of the illness caused by the flu virus and the infant's health condition, to ensure that the baby is getting the proper benefit from this medicine.
The flu is an infection caused by a virus. Symptoms of the flu often include a fever (>37.8°C), cough, runny or stuffy nose, headache, muscle aches, and extreme tiredness. These symptoms can also occur due to other diseases. True flu infections only occur during annual epidemics when flu viruses circulate in the community. Outside of this epidemic period, flu-like symptoms are usually caused by other infections or illnesses.
